In many cases, veneers can quickly and effectively correct the position of your teeth and for this reason are sometimes referred to as “instant orthodontics.”
When placed over cracked, broken or worn teeth they improve the aesthetics of your smile and protect your natural teeth at the same time.
They may even help protect your teeth from decay and can make oral hygiene much easier because you don’t have to worry about food or bacteria that can hide within crevices between crooked teeth.
Composite or Porcelain?
Dental veneers can be made from either composite or porcelain.
How long the veneers last, how natural the veneers look, the veneers cost and how much maintenance is involved all come down to the material the veneers are made of.
With composite veneers, you’ll get around a 20 per cent overall improvement in your smile. This option is good for if you want subtle improvements to your smile – the drama is in the subtlety.
Porcelain veneers deliver about an 80 per cent improvement in your smile. Porcelain veneers are great for clients who want a big improvement in the appearance of their smile.

Composite Veneers can be done in one sitting, with a follow up appointment for fine tuning and/or teeth whitening.
A soft blob of composite material (with a similar texture to dough) is shaped onto each tooth, cured with a setting light to make it strong and hard, shaped as desired and then polished for a beautiful finish that results in an improved smile that will bring you confidence.

Porcelain veneers are a more meticulous process in which they are hand designed and applied with layers of fine, powdered porcelain, a liquid and a brush. Each layer is a different shade of white to achieve the perfect balance of translucency, radiance and brightness.
Our porcelain veneers are handcrafted by Master Ceramists, using a special blend of ceramic that closely mimics the details of natural teeth, allowing us to uplift the shape, position and function that maintains the natural character of the client’s smile as it enhances the natural beauty of the face.

How Porcelain Veneers are Applied

We take records of your teeth. This includes high quality photos, videos, x-ray and bite analysis. During this consultation, we will be able to show you your new smile digitally.
Once you accept your new smile design, and are ready to move forward, we will move forward to the next appointment, the Trial Smile.

We will then create a temporary smile for you with temporary veneers that you can wear for three weeks. This will allow you to “test drive” your new smile, so you can be fully confident you are making the best choice for you.

The third appointment is where you provide feedback and we can apply any finishing touches to your new smile.

This fourth appointment is the most exciting, as you receive your new, permanent veneers.

The last appointment takes place one week later, as you have had time to live with your veneers and can inform us about any required adjustments, and we can apply any finishing touches to ensure you are happy with your beautiful and updated smile. This is also the appointment where you receive your Aftercare Guard.

What are some alternatives to veneers?
One alternative is called the ‘Snap on Smile’. This is something you wear over your teeth to give the illusion of a straighter, whiter smile. It does not look as natural as Porcelain Veneers but some people prefer this option. We do not offer this at Dental & Skin Clinic because the aesthetic results are disappointing. In additional they are bulky and thick and not customised to the gum line which means they attract food and plaque around the gum line, making them difficult to clean and can cause the gums to become chronically inflamed and irritated.
Orthodontics is another alternative to Dental Veneers. They work by straightening the teeth typically over a period of 6-24 months, depending on how crooked the teeth are and what the final goal is. Orthodontics in the form of traditional braces or clear aligners such as Invisalign or other clear aligner brands work the same way which is to straighten the teeth. What they don’t do is correct the colour or the shape of teeth.
Teeth whitening is a quick and easy solution for an instantly brighter smile. Typically most people get about a 15-20% overall improvement in the colour of the teeth. However for some people it doesn’t work at all and they can end up being disappointed. That’s where other avenues such as veneers may be a suitable option to explore.
Do I need to get teeth whitening if I’m getting veneers?
We prefer to work on a clean canvas. For this reason it’s our preference to do teeth whitening prior to your veneer appointment.
How long does the Veneers Consultation take?
We generally recommend you allow 90 minutes for the initial Veneers Consultation. We want to take our time in getting to know you, your smile goals and your smile expectations.
