What is skin needling?
Skin needling is our go-to treatment for instantly firmer, smoother skin. Known for its incredible ability to stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin, micro-needling delivers real results in overall skin rejuvenation.
Skin needling improves the appearance of indented scars, wrinkles and stretch marks, making them less noticeable and in some cases removing them altogether.
When rolled over the skin the needles cause thousands of micro-injuries to the skin, this then causes the skin to begin a process of wound healing whereby new collagen is produced. The production of new collagen continues for up to 12 months after the procedure has been performed.
At Dental and Skin Clinique we use skin rollers with 3mm needles, which are the longest needles available for skin needling and are known to provide the best results. Our more aggressive strategy of skin needling means better results are achieved through fewer treatments.
Is skin needling safe?
Skin Needling creates dermal stimulation without damaging the outer layer, maximising the outward appearance of the area and speeding up the healing process at a much faster rate than other procedures.
Who is skin needling best for?
Does skin needling hurt?
Before commencing, your dedicated clinician will fully numb the skin using a device called The Wand, which is a pain-free way to fully numb the skin on the face.
Unlike anaesthetic cream which only numbs the superficial outer layer of the skin, the Wand completely numbs the skin so that the entire process of skin needling is completely pleasant and free from any discomfort. The only sensation you should feel is some light pressure during the Skin Needling process.
What can I expect following my skin needling treatment?
Temporary acne-breakouts may occur after treatment.
Are there any side effects to skin needling?
Post-treatment, you will experience mild to moderate redness, puffiness and sensitivity that can last between up to 48 hours. Some clients have experienced light bruising that can last for up to 3 days due to the pressure applied during treatment.
After a few days, the face will start to feel dry and tight, which may feel a little rough to touch. Once the dryness has reduced your skin will appear fresh and radiant and the effects of collagen formation will continue for up to 12 weeks.

What is the difference between microdermabrasion and skin needling?
Although they may target some of the same skin concerns, micro-needling and microdermabrasion are two very different treatments that use different methods to achieve their results.
Essentially, microdermabrasion exfoliates the skin, while micro-needling stimulates the skin. While microdermabrasion treats the skin’s surface, the micro-needling process reaches the deeper layers of the epidermis.
Micro-needling targets:
– Acne scarring
– Stretch marks
– Open pores
– Fine lines
– Hyperpigmentation
Microdermabrasion targets:
– Acne and congestion
– Breakouts and blackheads
– Dry skin
– Dullness
– Uneven skin tone
Microdermabrasion and micro-needling aren’t a quick-fix solution to all your skincare problems, both treatments aim to improve skin texture and tone over time.
It is usually recommended that clients receive a minimum of three treatments on monthly intervals to achieve best results.
How does skin needling work?
The treatment creates tiny punctures in the skin that encourage the production of new collagen. The dermal stimulation is created without damaging the outer layer, maximising the outward appearance of the skin and speeding up the healing process at a much faster rate than other procedures.
How long will it take for me to see visible results from my skin needling treatment?
Skin Needling will improve skin tone and texture with visible results appearing within 6-8 weeks.
Visible Skin Needling results will usually require multiple sessions. Improvement in skin tone and texture will start to show within 6-8 weeks and will continue to improve drastically in the following months.
After a series of procedures, a significant improvement will be noticeable, including smoother skin, improved skin tone, reduction of scars and pitting, improved texture of stretch marks, and a reduction in fine lines.
We at Dental and Skin Clinique recommend between 3-8 treatments as a general guideline.
Where can skin needling be performed?
The face is the most common area for skin treatments, but other areas of the body can enjoy great Skin Needling results just as effectively, including the hands, neck, back and chest.
This also makes it an amazing treatment for stretch marks or scars from operations or injury on the body. The treatment is suitable for any skin type and colour, it’s perfect for people looking to improve skin texture and tightness.
What can I expect from my skin needling treatment?
The cylindrical roller is rolled over the skin multiple times to induce the thousands of microscopic injuries to the skin.
Once the skin needling has taken place, an infusion of peptides and hyaluronic acid is added to skin to further enhance the effects of skin needling and collagen production.
Does skin needling cause scarring?
What is the difference between cosmetic needling and medical skin needling?
Medical skin needling must be performed by a physician or medical trained skincare professional while skin microneedling can be done at home.
Skin microneedling uses short needles of less than 0.5 mm long.
Medical skin needling uses longer needles of up to 2.5mm long.
Looking at the research compare medical skin needling to skin microneedling in treating wrinkles and other skin conditions, the results proved that medical skin needling was more effective at improving wrinkles, pores, tone and pigmentation than skin microneedling.
Even the 0.5 mm needle produced effective results, improving wrinkles by 26 percent and UV spots by 16 percent.
